Practices in Analytic Reasoning & Critical Thinking

Explores contemporary topics using analytic methods and metacognitive strategies. Students will explore contemporary ethical dilemmas, the rules of argument, inductive and deductive reasoning, the recognition of formal and informal fallacies, validity and soundness, and the application of logical thinking in work and social settings.

Principles of Ethics

Focuses on the application of ethics to personal and professional life. Course covers egoism, deontology, consequentialism, virtue ethics, rights-based ethics, distributive justice, religion, and ethics within various cultural communities. Topics include human rights, war and terrorism, citizenship, international jurisdiction, animal rights, abortion, and poverty.

Philosophy in Film

Utilizes film analysis to learn about foundational philosophical ideas. Students will learn to think about common philosophical discussions such as the nature of personal identity, the existence of free will, the foundations for ethical judgments, and religious philosophy by using movies as an accessible medium.
